Authenticity & Editions
Each work offered by John John Fine Photography is produced as a limited-edition fine art print.
The edition is part of the object’s identity. It defines the rarity of the work, preserves the integrity of the release, and gives collectors confidence that the print they acquire belongs to a controlled and documented body of work.
Edition sizes vary by image and size. Current editions may range from approximately 20 to 150 prints, depending on the work, the selected format, and the artist’s decision for that release. The edition size shown on each product page refers specifically to that image in that print size.
Different print sizes are treated as separate editions. For example, a smaller print and a larger print of the same image may each have their own edition size and numbering. If an image is ever released in a radically different size, that release may be treated as its own separate edition.
Once a limited edition sells out, it will not be reprinted in the same size.
Numbering
Edition numbers are assigned as works are sold, while the final edition size is predetermined. Each editioned work is numbered according to its place within the edition.
A print may be marked, for example:
1/20 or 1 of 20
12/50 or 12 of 50
83/150 or 83 of 150
The first number identifies the individual print. The second number identifies the total edition size for that release.
Signature
Each limited-edition print is signed and numbered by the artist.
The signature will generally appear on the front corner of the work or in another appropriate location selected by the artist. Some works may also include a signature, notation, or edition detail on the back. First-edition works, final edition numbers, or closeout edition numbers may include special notes from the artist at his discretion.
Because the finishing of each edition is considered part of the artwork, signature placement, notation style, and backing details may vary by edition.
Certificate of Authenticity
Each limited-edition work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity unless otherwise stated.
The certificate may include the title of the work, artist name, print size, framed size, edition number, edition size, medium, film format, production details, signature, and other relevant edition information.
The Certificate of Authenticity is an important part of the work’s provenance. It should be stored safely by the collector and retained with the artwork in the event of resale, transfer, insurance documentation, or estate planning.
Artist Proofs
Artist proofs, often marked A/P or AP, are prints produced outside the numbered public edition. Historically, artist proofs were used by the artist to evaluate and approve the final print. In contemporary collecting, they may also be retained for the artist’s archive, special exhibitions, select collectors, or future institutional opportunities.
Artist proofs may be produced at the artist’s discretion. When released, they will be clearly marked, signed, and documented separately from the numbered edition.
Artist proofs are not part of the numbered public edition.
Sold-Out Editions
When an edition is sold out, that edition is closed.
John John Fine Photography will not reissue the same image in the same size once that edition has sold out. This policy is central to protecting the integrity of the edition and the confidence of collectors.
In the rare event that a confirmed editioned work is destroyed, the artist may, at his sole discretion, produce a replacement for that specific edition number. Any such replacement will be documented as a replacement print and will not increase the stated edition size.
Copyright and Reproduction Rights
Purchase of a print transfers ownership of the physical artwork only.
Copyright, reproduction rights, licensing rights, commercial usage rights, digital rights, and all other intellectual property rights remain with the artist unless expressly transferred in a separate written agreement signed by the artist.
Collectors may not reproduce, scan, photograph for commercial use, publish, license, alter, mint as an NFT, create derivative works from, or otherwise exploit the image without prior written permission.
